making access to suitable housing easier for disabled people

what is the Walsall Adapted Housing Service?

The Walsall Adapted Housing Service (WAHS) is a matching service for adapted properties in the borough of Walsall owned by social landlords including whg. The Service aims to match an adapted property which becomes vacant to a person with a disability that has needs for such adaptations, through an application process

how does it work?

Any home with existing disabled adaptions that becomes available to whg and the other housing associations is referred to the service.  The new tenant is chosen by searching through all the applications from people who are registered with WAHS and are either physically disabled or who have need of those adaptions that were previously installed.

Once Walsall Adapted Housing Service has connected a potential client with a housing provider it does not take any further part in the negotiations between housing provider and client. It is not in a position and will not be able to give advice outside of its matching service. Once a client has accepted a property from a housing provider the WAHS has no further responsibility or interest and will close the file. The WAHS will arrange a maximum of four properties to any applicant.

It will however signpost applicants/Clients via the Centre for Independent Living (CIL) to other service providers who may be able to assist and give advice.

how can I be considered?

·       Walsall Adapted Housing Service does not take referrals from the general public. All referrals must be made though the following routes: -

                     Occupational Therapy

                     your housing provider

                     Walsall PCT and tPCT

                     Walsall MBC Housing Advice

Social Care & Health (Supporting People)

This is to ensure that applications for adapted properties are genuine and deserving and that the service is not used for queue jumping.

Remember

  • you don't have to be a whg tenant to benefit from this service
  • if your application is successful you may be offered suitable accommodation by any of the social landlords participating in the scheme

If you are a whg tenant and think that you may qualify please contact us
