prospects advice

Q Can you tell me how long I will have to wait for an offer ?

A This is the most frequently asked question but it is difficult for us to give accurate information about your prospects of being made an offer within specific timescales. (This is because the waiting time will be different for different areas and for different kinds of property. The wait for a 3 bedroom house, for example, will usually be longer than the wait for a 2 bedroom flat. Waiting times are also difficult to predict because there is a limit to how many properties become available each week or month and, in some areas, properties become empty less often than in others.

Other factors include how many properties we own, of the type you are interested in and in the areas that you want to live in. A couple of examples might help you to make sense of how this works in practice. If, for example, you want or need a house with 4 or more bedrooms you will have to wait a long time because whg only owns 292 such properties so they do not become available very often. If you want a 2 bedroom bungalow anywhere in the Borough you will again have to wait some time because whg only owns 340 such properties.

The table below gives information about the number of properties that became available and were let during the 12 month period from 1st April 2007 to 31st March 2008.The information is given by property type and by Trust area and will give you some idea about the levels of availability in each of the areas.

You can also get an idea of waiting times if you check the results published every week on the web site and in our offices. The results will tell you how many bids we received for each of the properties, the band of the successful applicant and their effective date. You will then have some idea of how long you might wait for a specific property type in a particular area.
